10 Marvel Characters We Hope to See in the MCU’s Phase 4
Phase 4 of the MCU will see a far more expanded character roster but we’d love to see these 10 — unconfirmed — names in the mix, too.

Marvel Studios took Comic-Con International, and the world, by storm with the announcement of the Phase Four slate of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While many of the projects were already rumored, it was the details that left fans clamoring for more.
Every movie or show gives audiences the opportunity to see some of more of favorite characters come to life. For this list, we’ll be looking at 10 characters that we hope will appear during the MCU’s Phase Four.
CRIMSON DYNAMO
Scarlett Johansson has said Natasha Romanoff’s first solo film will dive deep into her Russian roots. What’s exciting about that idea is that Marvel Comics has a plethora of Russian adversaries Black Widow could face, one of them being Crimson Dynamo.
There have been more than a dozen incarnations of Crimson Dynamo, but the most notable may be Valentin Shatalov. A Colonel-General in the Soviet army and a KGB agent, Shatalov used his rank to obtain the Dynamo armor for his own use. With Natasha being a former KGB operative, it’s possible she ran into Shatalov while getting that red in her ledger.
U.S. AGENT
When Steve Rogers hung up his shield in the late 1980s, the Captain America mantle was passed on to John Walker by the Commission on Superhuman Activities. Following a brief stint as the Sentinel of Liberty, Walker’s death was faked in order to give him a new identity, and he later resurfaced as the U.S. Agent.
The Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will see Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) take on the Captain America mantle following the events of Avengers: Endgame. It’s possible that if US government feels as the shield wasn’t Rogers’ to give away, it could bring in its own candidate: John Walker.
A’LARS
Chloe Zhao’s Eternals will take the MCU in an all-new direction using some of its lesser-known characters. What helps audiences immerse themselves in an unfamiliar setting is connectivity. The father of Thanos, A’lars is a member of the Eternals who was born eons ago in the city of Titanos.
With Eternals taking place so many years before the main events of the MCU, alluding to things to come will reward fans who watched the entirety of the MCU. A’lars’ live-action debut could also lay the groundwork for the appearance of a baby Thanos in a potential sequel. (Just make sure Rhodey doesn’t catch wind of it…)
FIN FANG FOOM
With Marvel Studios set to reboot the Mandarin in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, it’s time to introduce one of his most iconic allies, Fin Fang Foom. First appearing in Strange Tales #89, the character is an extraterrestrial creature that resembles a dragon. Foom possesses super strength, the ability to fly via his wings at supersonic speeds, and can spew combustible acid mist from his mouth.
Many fans were left disappointed when Netflix’s Iron Fist neglected to show Danny Rand face off against the dragon Shou-Lao. Shang-Chi already hopes to right the wrongs of Iron Man 3, so why not do the same for a lackluster Netflix series that refused to lean into its source material?
WICCAN & SPEED
The children of Scarlet Witch and Vision, Wiccan and Speed first appeared in the Young Avengers series. With the direction Wanda Maximoff is headed in the MCU, it’s only a matter of time before these two heroes are introduced.
The Disney+ series, WandaVision, is said to have a suburban ’50s aesthetic, with many theorizing that Wanda has created a quaint reality using her abilities to deal with her grief following the death of Vision. If that is the case, kids are sure to be part of that scenario so it feels like the perfect opportunity to bring in her two sons.
BROTHER VOODOO
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is sure to expand the mystic world within the MCU. One character that has become synonymous with magic in the pages of Marvel Comics is Brother Voodoo. Debuting in Strange Tales #169 in 1973, Jericho Drumm possesses numerous mystical and quasi-physical powers derived from the Loa, the spirit gods of voodoo.
Brother Voodoo draws his power from a different place than the Masters of the Mystic Arts we’ve been introduced to, so being introduced in a multiverse setting make perfect sense. Marvel Studios could also decide to set the character up for a larger story, which could include taking over for Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) as Sorcerer Supreme, something that occurred in the comics.
BALDER THE BRAVE
The half-brother of Thor, Balder is one of the Norse Gods of Asgard. The character is a companion to the Warriors Three and a loyal follower and son of Odin. Since his debut in 1962, Balder has had several run-ins with the God of Mischief, Loki, who happens to have a Disney+ project in the works.
With the Loki series taking place in an alternate timeline before the destruction of Asgard, it’s the perfect opportunity to introduce Asgardians who weren’t featured in the first three Thor films. Balder could bring an interesting dynamic to the series given that he, like Loki, has lived in Thor’s shadow for most of his life.
RED HULK
One of the most intriguing announcements from Hall H was the What If..? series, which will feature Jeffrey Wright as The Watcher. The show will follow events within MCU canon but have them play out differently. For example, one of the first episodes will imagine a world where Peggy Carter becomes Captain America and Steve Rogers turns into the original Iron Man.
In keeping with the theme of characters switching roles in an experiment that imbues them with superhuman abilities, What If..? has the opportunity to explore a fan favorite character without having to bring him to live-action. In the comics, Thunderbolt Ross injects himself with a serum that makes him a more sinister version of the Hulk.
Since Ross (William Hurt) reappeared in Captain America: Civil War after a near decade long hiatus, fans have been clamoring for the MCU to explore Red Hulk, so why not do it in animated form?
TRICKSHOT
The newly-announced Hawkeye series on Disney+ will see long-time Avenger Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) train his successor in Kate Bishop. The show is sure to take a deep-dive into who Clint is as a person rather than a hero, which is something the movies have only briefly touched on. And what better way to learn more about a character than by meeting his family?
In the comics, Clint’s older brother, Charles “Barney” Barton, is trained by Buck Chisholm, the same man who coached Hawkeye, becoming the villain, Trickshot. Barney was a member of Norman Osborn’s second incarnation of the Dark Avengers. Adding Trickshot as a villain in Hawkeye could bring an emotional arc to the series for its titular character.
BETA RAY BILL
Thor: Love and Thunder is set to adapt Jason Aaron’s Mighty Thor comic run, which sees Jane Foster wield Mjolnir and become the Goddess of Thunder. Knowing Taika Waititi, he’s sure to put a wacky spin on the story, meaning we could see any number of deep-cut Marvel Comics characters appear.
One character that could fit in nicely is Beta Ray Bill. An alien of the Korbinite race, Bill is one of the few Marvel characters that has been able to wield Thor’s hammer. Waititi almost gave the character a small role in Thor: Ragnarok, so it’s only right that he gets to include him in his sequel.
